Introduction / History
The Rawas are a people group of South Sumatra. Those who live near the Rupit River are also known as the Rupit, while those who live near the Rawas River are most commonly known as the Rawas. They live in the Rawas Ulu and Rawas Ilir districts in the Musi Rawas regency of South Sumatra province. Many Rawas people live in small cities, like Sarolangun and Bingin Teluk, or in villages like Lubuk Kemang, Lesung Batu, Sungai Baung, Pangkalan, Pulaukida, Muarakuwis and Talang Beringin. In the west, Rawas territory ascends to the peaks of the 2,068-meter-high Mount Hijau. To the south is the Musi Rawas regency capital, Lubuk Linggau, through which runs the trans-Sumatra highway. The Rawas language is a branch of the Malay language cluster.
What are their lives like?
The main sources of income for the Rawas come from rubber and palm oil plantations. They are self-sufficient in producing their food supply. The Rawas area also produces various fruits such as oranges, mango, pineapples, duku (small white fruit), langsat (small yellow fruit), jackfruit, papaya, rambutan (red hairy fruit) and durian (large fruit with a spiky skin and a strong smell). They also raise livestock such as ducks, chickens, goats and water buffalo. When catching fish, the Rawas still use traditional boats without motors. The Rawas are highly motivated in pursuing their economic needs and many work until they are old. The Rawas strongly value honestly in their work and this can be seen in how they earn their money. Honesty is a community value and therefore the Rawas area is quite safe. Their relationships with the transmigrants in their area are very good. In fact, the indigenous residents or village people are known as people who don't really bother much with the affairs of transmigrants. On Friday's the market is quieter because the people limit their time with work activities in order to prepare for Friday prayers. The line of descent is bilateral, which means that a child may choose his line of descent, or it can be decided through discussion with his parents before they are married. There is a clear division of work between the men and women. Men work in the fields, plantations, rivers (gathering stones), or in making bricks. The women cook and care for the children at home or run small shops. The Rawas have interesting art forms. Their art forms include singing and traditional dancing with tambourines, like the Tari Piring (Plate Dance) and Tari Pisau (Knife Dance). Art groups that are formed among the young people, encourage these traditional arts of dancing and singing. Other than that, the Rawas are also active in developing pencak silat (Indonesian martial arts).
What are their beliefs?
The Rawas embrace Sunni Islam. They obediently and joyfully perform the religious duties of fasting and other Islamic celebrations. One of these celebrations includes the circumcision of boys aged six or seven years old. They also hold religious meals to remember the deceased at 7 days, 40 days and 100 days after a death. They often use an object which is carved or engraved with Islamic designs as a charm when they bury their dead.
What are their needs?
They seem to have sufficient income from their rubber plantations. However, at this time they need medicine for treating malaria which is often a cause of suffering for them. In the area of agriculture, they need help with improving the quality of their fruit. Other than that, the rich flora in this area, especially with the wide variety of trees, has great potential for expanding to become a highly valuable economic commodity.

Kubu Lodge Sumatra, Indonesia

Kubu Lodge Sumatra, Indonesia

Journey into a forbidden paradise, a jungle rich in history, heritage, cultures and creatures. Western and central Sumatra are home to a wealth of indigenous peoples who coexist with the countless species of endemic plants and animals living in this unspoiled jungle.

The Rawas River Lodge and Kubu Lodge, both located in southern Sumatra, allow you to explore this pristine wilderness, in comfort and safety, while experiencing the beauty, and charm of the Kubu people.

The Rawas River Lodge, situated along the banks of the Rawas river, in a former coconut grove, is the ideal spot to begin your expedition in to the misty rain forest; or, rest your body, and mind, after you have explored the trails and experienced the culture of the peoples that live in this dense jungle. Canoe on the river, just steps from your bungalow; explore the forest which surrounds the compound; or just relax by the pool, in the restaurant, or in your tastefully appointed room.

The Kubu Lodge, hidden further inland, and accessible only by a three-hour canoe ride, is an ideal location to get away from the distractions of the "real world." Dive into the clear, cool waterfalls; plunge into the seductive river or marvel as the evening mists envelop your river view cottage. From the balcony overlooking the river, listen to the enchanting songs of the many species of tropical birds, and hear the calls of passing bands of monkeys and gibbons from the surrounding jungle.

Perhaps the most enticing feature of the Kubu Lodge, however, are the one-hundred hectares of pristine rain forest which encircle the complex- this area was purchased from the government and the local people, to ensure its protection from illegal logging, poachers, and other developments.

Sumatra tigers and panthers roam in the rain forest around the Kubu Lodge. Birds sing and monkeys play high in the old trees. Wild buffalo, deer and boar shuffle in dense vegetation while Kubu forest nomads spear their fish in small streams.

If you are interested in this wild flora and fauna at the feet of volcano mountains, visit Kubu Lodge. Cruise half a day upriver over rapids to the lodge at the spring of south Sumatra's Rawas River. Passing many small river villages is time traveling to the past, no roads, no cars, no electricity and no television but many, many children. See farmers grow corn and rice on their slash and burn spots along the river. See fisherman cast their nets while women wash their dishes on a bamboo raft.

Led by the local ranger many young and old enjoyed this adventure around the Kubu Lodge. On foot trough rapid streams and listen to bird songs high in the foliage. Hew trough dense undergrowth with screaming monkeys in the treetops and tiger tracks and drops here and there.

Many enjoyed the surrounding wild scenery with coffee and cake on their cottage balcony, or a cold beer on the terrace and a Sumatran candle light dinner in the open restaurant. "An unforgettable experience in this wild paradise" wrote a Scandinavian group in their guest book. See it yourself, stay in one of the traditional cottages in this tropical nowhere.

Sumatra, the largest island of this archipelago offers also colorful culture. North of the Kubu lodge, high in the mountains in Bukittinggi woman are head of the family, man follow the woman. Or to the South, over the volcano mountains stroll on the beaches of Bengkulu and visit fort Marlboro built by the British in Napoleons time.

Goa Napalicin Di Musi Rawas

Celah-celah batu membiaskan bentuk artistik.

informasi tentang napal licin

Memasuki lorong-lorong gua, kelelawar beterbangan. Titik-titik air dari atas gua memberikan kesan mistis. Apalagi, sesekali kelelawar beterbangan. Pada beberapa bagian memang gelap sehingga warga setempat memasang beberapa obor bambu. Di bawah cahaya temaram, keindangan berbagai sisi gua makin berbinar.
Berbagai bentuk terlihat. Celah-celah batu membiaskan bentuk artistik.
Setelah menikmati Gua Batu Napalicin, kita masih objek wisata Air Terjun Sungai Kerali (Desa Napalicin) dan Air Terjun Batu Ampar, Desa Kota Tanjung.
